Read the following sources and write an essay expressing your opinion on whether the Washington Redskins should change their name. Read the evidence and arguments for and against changing the name, and quote from the articles in taking your position. In the body of the essay, describe which arguments you read were most persuasive to you, and why. After making your argument, summarize the argument opposing yours, and try to rebut it by showing how it is not as strong as yours. If you are arguing for changing the name, you may also suggest new names for the team. Consider what name and mascot you think would represent the Washington, DC area and its fans well.
We are working from common sources, so a works cited or bibliography page, or full MLA in-text citations are not necessary. Rather, use signal phrases that tell the reader the author(s) names, publication, and year of the source you are using. Use at least four sources. (You may use more if you wish.)Sources
