The two essays you’ve read this week serve as a good example of a personal narrative. What you should study, along with the theme and purpose of each piece, are the different techniques used by the author.
Write a paragraph for each essay you read (“Me Talk Pretty One Day” and “A Clack of Tiny Sparks.” In each paragraph, state what you believe each author wants his readers to understand about his life and his experiences (author’s purpose). Also, explain if the elements of scene and storytelling (you should’ve already reviewed this page in Module Week One) in each essay are effective. Answer why or why not. In these paragraphs, incorporate at least three aspects of each essay that you think work well. Explain why.

You should always refer to authors by their last names and put titles of essays in quotation marks.
